#2 Digital transformation: what does the future have in store for Luxembourg businesses?
Interview with Boris Schmidt, Senior PHP Developer at Linc Technology Partner, with whom we will discuss Luxembourg’s digital future.
Boris considers new technologies (NICT) as a major leap forward in the computing industry. According to a study conducted by IMD, Luxembourg was ranked 24th among countries adopting and using digital technologies in 2018, which confirms the importance of NICT in the country.
These new processes account for 100% of Boris’s current work. He believes that all businesses should switch to digital to stay up to date with current and future trends.
Boris, can you explain to us in a few words what, in your opinion, are the technologies of tomorrow?
In your opinion, how do Luxembourg leaders perceive these technological advances? And how should they understand them?
I think that Luxembourg embraces technological progress more readily than it did a few years ago. However, some leaders don’t yet fully understand its added value as they consider IT projects as cost and not profit.
They haven’t quite yet understood that digital transformation takes time but will allow them to save more time later. We must “get out of our comfort zone and change our mindset” as all sectors are concerned.
So, what have been your latest projects for your client? And how did they react?
My team and I are in the “proof of concept” phase in the containerization of our application portfolio. Having explained the ins and outs of this concept to the client, they gave us carte blanche to launch the tests using Docker as a platform.
The “proof of concept” is currently in the testing phase so we can see how the information system responds. The client is currently observing and evaluating the concept to assess future outcomes, such as easier maintenance etc.
Can you tell us why you joined Technology Partner and why you plan on staying there?
“They came to me” (laugh) and I was delighted to leave my previous post as the projects did not appeal to me anymore. At Technology Partner you can express yourself freely and your needs are carefully catered for. The projects for 2019 presented during our last team meeting are relevant and attractive. That’s why I can easily engage with them.
What are your objectives for the future?

“Front-end” technologies are the technologies “visible” by users, a website interface for example.
The “Back-end” is the coding of a website or what is not visible by users.
Proof of concept (POC) is a preliminary experimental yet practical realization, whether short or incomplete, illustrating a specific method or concept in order to demonstrate its feasibility.
